Sunyani Area Teachers' Credit Union Limited was formed on 1st November, 1989 after registration with the Registrar of Co-operative Societies with the name "Sunyani Teacher's Credit Union Limited" under the leadership of Mr. E.S Kyeremeh with a total of 45 members. Later, a BoD was instituted and they elected their first members of Board of Directors to run the affairs of the union where Mr. E.S. Kyeremeh became the substantive manager and CEO of the Union.
He was an educationalist at the Sunyani Education office by then, where he has to move from one school to another to educate his colleague teachers about the importance of been a member of a credit union. He then started taken physical cash from any teacher who was fully convinced of an amount of c2,000 now twenty pesewas (Gh¢0.20) after the union acquired an office to operate in.
In February, 1990, the union employed staff which comprises one Accountant and two cashiers (Tellers). Currently, the union's membership has increased and can boast of over twenty thousand members with three branches namely: Sunyani branch (head office), Hwidiem branch and Techiman branch. The union has employed also fifty-six staff (employees).
The policy on savings and its related operations shall be known as "THE SAVING POLICY" Savings is the regular contribution by the member made on either daily, weekly or monthly basis. Savings which are not used as collateral for loan and subject to the provisions of the by-laws and these policies are free to be operated by the member as and when necessary.
SUNYANI AREA TEACHERS' CREDIT UNION LIMITED (SATCCU) shall insure all member savings against death and permanent disability.
The insurance company pays to the injured person or beneficiary (ies) of the deceased member benefits equal in saving in the member's savings account if it does not exceed amount determined by CUA. the premium for this insurance is paid by the Credit Union on behalf of the member.
The management of SUNYANI AREA TEACHERS' CREDIT UNION LIMITED (SATCCU) has adopted the following policy to meet the standards set in the form of prompt and equal service to all members, strict adherence to loans regulations, controlling high rates of loan delinquency and facilitating regular loans repayment.
